Announcing a Macromedia Flex-based, interactive analytics capability for the MakeTime server

In the spirit of MakeTime’s© unconventional solutions to business problems, we are adding an analytics package which will provide the ability to execute set operations on groups of search results.

What does that mean? Here’s one example:

Imagine that you have an index containing job posts across a number of websites. You might want to obtain the list of companies that have:

  • Posted at least one job in the last 3 months AND
  • Not posted a job on Job Site X in the last 3 months OR
  • Not posted any jobs in the last 3 months

With MakeTime Analytics the user will be presented with a visual interface showing the three sets of data (or in MakeTime language – the three saved searches):

(A) ALL postings

(B) ALL Postings in the last 3 months

(C) ALL Postings in the last 3 months to Job Site X

The results we are looking for are the company names in:

((A) – (B)) + ((B) – (C))

MakeTime analytics represents each set, including all set intersections using a Macromedia Flex UI.

The user can drag and drop each set or set intersection to form a logical set expression. The resulting list of search results can then be exported to a spreadsheet or a list of unique values on any column can be generated. Additionally simple Max(), Min(), Median(), Average() and Sum() aggregates can be computed on all numeric columns.

The analytics add-on will be available to beta testers by the end of the year.
